Project: Supporting the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Team



Our R5CC team will continue to help the Kentucky Department of Education's (KDE) Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) team build their capacity to implement the Kentucky Board of Education's commitment to DEIB in all schools. Funding for the DEIB team will not be continuing after the 2023–24 school year. Hence, in Year 5, we will assist the DEIB team in sunsetting their work in a way that supports continued access to and use of the DEIB resources by educators across the state in and beyond 2024. 

High-Leverage Problem

The KDE has established three pillars for their work: a vibrant student experience, innovation (especially related to assessment), and community engagement. The DEIB team has asked us to support them in meeting several goals to further their work aligned with those pillars. All of the DEIB team's work is aimed at fulfilling the team’s mission to “create and deepen partnerships to remove long-standing barriers to equity by providing supports in developing an equity lens, elevating student and educator voice, and promoting equitable, inclusive, and healing learning communities.” Each of the three areas of work outlined below address one of the three KDE pillars and the DEIB mission.

Approach to Capacity-Building Services

Our R5CC team will support the DEIB team with capacity building in three areas: 

  1. Provide individualized coaching to DEIB team members (growing human capacity)
  2. Support communication about and dissemination of the resources developed by the DEIB team to support continued use of the resources beyond 2024 (growing resource capacity)
  3. Assist with strategic planning to organize work related to the DEIB mission within the KDE after the DEIB team sunsets (growing organizational capacity).
