Region 5 Comprehensive Center (R5CC) will collaborate with the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) to create and provide guidance to LEAs on operating districts and schools with new challenges and available funding due to Covid-19. This guidance will consist of a series of blog posts on the R5CC website and included in weekly communications from KDE to related stakeholders. Virtual office hours will be offered to supplement the blogs so participants can join and ask questions in real-time.
High-Leverage Problem
COVID-19 has exacerbated existing issues and created new challenges resulting in a shift in priorities for LEAs. It's essential that LEAs strategically consider how to leverage short-term funds such as those from the American Rescue Plan (ARP) to address long-term issues.
Approach to Capacity Building Services
R5CC will create a series of blog posts to increase the capacity of LEAs to think strategically about their budgets. We will detail five steps of strategic budgeting - Vision and Goals, Assessing Resources, Using Data, Communicating with Districts, and Continuous Improvement. We will also provide guidance on using tools (e.g., cost-benefit analysis and cost-effectiveness analysis) to evaluate different options when developing a budget.
