The Region 5 Networked Improvement Community (NIC) applies principles of implementation science to improve students’ learning experiences in remote and hybrid learning environments. Region 5 NIC members are developing facilitator resources for education leaders to support continuous improvement. All resources will be posted on this website as they become available. Resources may be adapted and used to address a variety of education-related problems that emerge within a single building or persist across a district, state, or region.

Facilitator Resources

Resources include downloadable slide decks, meeting agendas, facilitator guides, and supplementary tools. Each set of resources addresses key concepts in the NIC's approach to improvement, including:

  1. Introduction to NICs
  2. Initiating the Team
  3. Developing a Well-Specified Problem Statement
  4. Conducting a Root Cause Analysis
  5. Developing a Theory of Improvement
  6. Establishing the Measurement Infrastructure
  7. Implementing Plan-Do-Study-Act Cycles
  8. Sustaining an Improvement Culture

The resources below are designed to support virtual meetings when not all members can be physically present; however, they can also be used in face-to-face and blended learning environments. For more information, please reach out to the Region 5 team at
